P: Lightroom Classic>Edit in PS: Long Delay+Erroneous Error Message opening Ps Beta 2024 25.0

I just recently updated Photoshop Beta to 2024 v25.0 on my Windows 11 machine.

Now when I try to open photos from LR 12.4 using the "edit in...", it hangs up for a time and then comes up saying "The file could not be edited because Adobe Photoshop 2024 could not be launched."

When I hit "Ok" it then opens the file in Photoshop 2024.

This happens with every file, even if Photoshop 2024 is already up and running at the time.

This does not happen with 2023 v24.7.

Greetings all,

Lightroom Classic 12.5 released this evening.  If used in conjunction with PS Beta 25.0 or later, this erroneous error message plus long open wait time should be mitigated. Please install LrC 12.5 and make certain that your Beta is up to date.

If you do not see the update in your Creative Cloud Application, you can refresh it by hitting [Ctrl/Cmd]+[Alt/Opt]+[ R ].

Note: It may take up to 24 hours for your update to be available in your Creative Cloud app.

When Photoshop Beta is uninstalled it takes with it the link between Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. The Edit it Photoshop on Lightroom is greyed out and no longer available. Everything ran well until i installed and the removed Photoshop Beta. From on line forums many others have experianced this as well.

Hi @MR GARY30218974fve2 curious, what was your Lr set to as far as external editor?  Was is Ps or Ps beta?  When you removed Ps beta, did you go into Lr and reset your external editor in the preferences?

If you select open with Photoshop Beta inside Lightroom Classic, Photoshop Beta opens but the file does not open, only the application.

Hi @cara-lynnb3978119 a reset of the Ps prefs should fix this.

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:

/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/ Photoshop Beta Settings (Mac Ventura)

/Users/yourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings (Mac)
C:\Users\user name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop (Beta)\Adobe Photoshop (Beta) Settings )Win)

Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut

With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

I receive this error whenever I attempt to open a file from LrC into PS beta 25.0.  The file eventually opens.  Screenshot 2023-07-27 080604.jpg

When the 'link' between Lightroom Classic and Photoshop has issues, the first step is to try this:

Use the Adobe Creative Cloud Application to uninstall Photoshop. When asked, keep preferences! After this reinstall Photoshop again.

What happened if you start PS Beta first and put it into the background? Will the photo then open in PS Beta when you pass it from LR to Photoshop?

This is exactly what happens for me. It does eventually open but it's often a couple minutes later. I am attempting to uninstall and reinstall Lightroom Classic to see if that will forge a proper connection. But I'm getting very frustrated. This is a big part of my workflow.

Uninstall/reinstall did not work. It still comes up saying it can't launch it and then finally opens it. Definite bug that is REALLY irritating as it slows down my workflow significantly.

This likely has nothing to do with Classic and everything to do with Photoshop Beta. Have you posted in the PS Beta forum?

I think reinstallation of Lightroom isn't necessary. I would try to reinstall Photoshop Beta.

I understand you, but this is the problem of Beta versions. It's always possible the Beta version doesn't work properly. It is recommended not to use Beta in productive environments.

I realized now that I am wrong.

This is also now happening with Photoshop 2023 v24.7

I will attempt to uninstall and reinstall both of them I guess. I did try to uninstall/reinstall LR with no changes.

UPDATE: Due to migration of Ps beta servers, customers must update to 25.0 or later to continue to use GenAI technology. If you wish to remain on 24.7 for LrC workflows, you will not have GenAI available any longer.  One temp solution will be to use Ps release version for the LrC back and forth workflow and only use Ps 25.0 beta for GenAI work.

For instructions on rolling back your version of the Photoshop see this doc: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

Thank you for your patience.

So I uninstalled Photoshop Beta. And now it is not in my creative cloud and I seem to not be able to reinstall it?

Did I just screw myself over completely and no longer will have access to Beta? I was making some major use of the new remove feature that I will be devastated to lose. How can I reinstall Beta?

Hi there,

Today, July 27, 2023, after an update installation for Photoshop Beta, Photoshop 2024 cannot be launched from Lightroom 12.4. That's the sign I get whenever I try to open several pics as layers in Photoshop. Any help?

Thank you

Thanks for the reports folks.

We need to confirm OS used (Mac or Windows or Both)

Additionally, are you using the default Edit In PS or have you created a special instance or the Photoshop Beta in Preferences>External Editors>?

If those afflicted could answer those two questions it would help us diagnose the issue.

Thank you.

Hi,

I just got an update for Photoshop Beta. Since then I'm not able to open images directly from Lightroom into PS. Doesn't matter if beta or standard release.

Strange thing I noticed within Lightroom is, that it tries to open the files in PS 2024.

Daniel26556516b8tn_0-1690469739771.png

In the settings there is also only the selection for PS 2024.

Daniel26556516b8tn_1-1690469785008.png

Is this connected?

Resetting LR settings didn't work. I also had a backup of the LR settings folder from two weeks ago. Replacing the current one with the backup also won't change the behaviour.

Any tips?

Regards

Daniel

Hi, I haven't found anything about this Photoshop 2024. One post said Photoshop 2024, but the post was from 2022. That's why, I asked here. I did my research before posting.
