P: Text-based watermarks render with outline on text

Similar to this bug as this, it was about the PNG watermark.
https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-watermarks-rendering-darker-than-preview/idi...

On Lightroom Classic 11.5 the PNG watermark bug is fixed, but it brings the similar issue to the text watermark.

Blow shows that the TEXT watermark with drop shadow will have a sharp edge on the right(15.0)

watermark on the left is 14.1.1

Hi,

I have a saved watermark, created using the text editor in Lightroom. It has been working perfectly for years but suddenly it comes out pixilated after exporting with no changes to the usual settings. I've tried with my usual export presets and different resolutions and fonts but the end result is still pixilated.

I've seen some solutions by creating a PNG image which seems like a bit of a schlep since this watermark has been working for so long and for no apparent reason now fails.

Has anyone else had this issue recently and how do we fix it?

Hi there,

Thanks for highlighting this.

Which version of Lightroom classic are you using? Did this start happening after any updates? What is the file type that you're working with?
You can try resetting Lightroom's preferences using the steps mentioned here: https://adobe.ly/2JSym5e.

Please back up your presets prior to resetting the preferences.

A similar issue was reported by a user which is under investigation; you might want to have a look: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-bugs/p-graphical-watermarks-are-rendering-in-low-re....

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks!

I'm also having problems exporting the watermark with the latest version (11.5) of lightroom classic for windows.

I tried to re-export with the same settings, a photo that I had exported months ago and of which I had a copy with the watermark was correct.
With the latest version of lightroom there seems to be no anti-aliasing on the text anymore.

Another strange thing is that the text is displayed correctly in the watermark edit window.

While in the exported jpg file it is rendered at low quality.

I don't know what changes have been made in the latest version, but that was fine before or now the watermarks are less aesthetically pleasing.Immagine 2022-09-30 180535.png

Lightroom Classic version 11.5

OS: Windows 11 Pro 22H2 build 22621.608,Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22634.1000.0

For many years I have been using a text watermark - not a graphic one -  with always the same settings. Since I updated from Lightroom Classic 11.4.1 to 11.5 I noticed the watermark was not rendering correctly: letters appeared as "eroded" and copyright mark was barely visible. I tried many different options, all separetely: changing font; allowing the OS to manage font anti-alias in LR Classic settings; changing the shadow settings, all to no avail. Reverting to Lightroom Classic version 11.4.1 solved the problem, so it definitely has to be something introduced by version 11.5. I include two photos: the first one shows how the watermark has always looked and still does in Lightroom Classic version 11.4.1; the second one how the watermark looks in version 11.5.

Hi Ranjisha,

My problem seems identical to Matteo's. I'm using version 11.5 and for me the problem occurs when exporting to jpegs after editing the raw files. I tend to update lightroom as soon as there is an update available. So, it is possible that this occured after the update. Has any progress been made since this seems to be an issue foor many users?

I've rolled back to version 11.4.1 for now. Watermarks export as they should.

Unfortunately, I still have the problem with version 12.1.

No Matteo, unfortunately Adobe has not yet solved the problem. Yesterday I tried exporting an image with a text watermark and I still get the ugly "eroded" result. I switched to using a graphic watermark: I created with Photoshop a small transparent image containing only my signature and apply it to exported images through the watermark panel in Lightroom. The problem with this approach - and the reason why I was using a text watermark - is that if you export images at different dimensions the graphic watermark does not get scaled well, so for better results you should use a different graphic watermark for every different image size you need. In my workflow this is a minor issue as I am only exporting watermarked images in one size (1024 px), but maybe you have different needs.

Thanks for the reply Fabrizio,
you export to different resolutions and on small 1600x1200 images vertically, this defect is more noticeable.
It's a shame that you have to downgrade just to get the correct watermarks.
Let's hope they fix it soon!

I'm also affected by this bug (v12.1) and it worries me that it's been 4 months since the bug was reported and still no fix in sight. What's the latest version people are downgrading to in order to avoid it?
